Summer Tournament Week 4

There were 16 games played this week, 10 in the open section, and 6 in the U1200 section. Winners in the open included Mark Kernighan, Praveen Balakrishnan, Don Carelli, John Moldovan, Greg Tomkovich, Geoff Mcauliffe, Braedon Reinoso, and Bert Shiffman, who won 2 games. Ian Mangion and Steve Leisch drew. In the U1200 winners included Alexksy Senyatkin, Andy Altamirano, Antonio altamarano, Leticia ?Sefia(2 wins) and Paula Sefia.

The current leaders in the open section are Mark kernighan and John Moldovan with 4 each, followeed by Greg Tomkovich with 3, and don Carelli with 2.5. Geoff McAuliffe, Bert Shiffman and Joe Renna have 2 each. In the U1200 section Andy Altamirano has 5, Leticia Sefia has 3 and Joe Azzarello and Antonio Altamirano have 2 each.

2011 Summer Tournament Week 1
This year we are trying an experiment, running the summer tournament in 2 sections, an open and an U 1200/Unr section. So far we have 16 people in the open and 3 in the U1200. If we do not get more people in the U1200 in the next couple of weeks I may decide to merge the sections, but probably have an U1200 prize.
In week 1 action, Mark Kernighan beat Joe Demetrick, Ian Mangion and Don Carelli drew, Joe Renna beat Ted Mann, Wayne Burnett and Chris Constantino drew, Greg Tomkovich beat John Moldovan, and in a intersection game Bert Shiffman beat Joe Azzarello.

Summer Tournament Week 7

With the Summer Tournament reaching the halfway point, Ari Minkov is in the lead with 9 points, 2 ahead of Ken Chieu. There is a three way tie for third between Mark Kernighan, Ian Mangion and John Moldovan with 5 each. Just behind them are Greg Tomkovich with 4.5 and Dave Paolowski and Lou Sturniolo with 4 each.

Summer Tournamaent Week 11

Ian Mangion regained the lead this week with 2 wins, one over Pat Mazillo aqnd one over Mikhail Krugliak for a total of 12 points. Mark Kernighan beat Don Carelli to remain in second with 11. John Moldavan took over third place with a win of Mikhail Krugliak and a draw with Greg Tomkovich, to give him 9.5, while Greg dropped to 4th with 9. Geoff McAuliffe beat Tedd Mann and Joe Renna beat Bert Shiffman.

Summer Tournamant Week 9

As the summer tournament enters the final 4 weeks we have a new leader and a tighter competition. Mark Kernighan beat Max Scherer to take the lead with 9 points, while I beat previous leader Ian Mangion. Ian is still in second with 8.5 and I am in third with 8. John Moldovan beat Bert Shiffman to hold on to fourth with 6.5 and Don carelli beat Pat Mazillo for his 6th point. Tedd Mann beat Geoff McAuliffe and Gordon Agress beat Lou Sterniolo to round out the action for the night.

Summer Tournament Week 8

After a slow start President John Moldovan is starting to make his move. He played Jim Cole and Gordon Agress simultaneously winning both games. John is in 4th place with 5.5 points. Meanwhile the current leader Ian Mangion also played two games (not simultaneously) beating Bert Shiffman, then losing to Mike Wojico. It was also Mike's second game of the night, he lost to Mark Kernighan in his first game. Ian has 8.5 points and Mark is still 2nd with 8. I beat Pat Mazillo to stay in third with 7 points. Don Carelli won his game against Dave Pawlolwski and is in fifth place with 5 points and Tedd Mann beat Joe Renna and is in 6th with 4 points .

We are now just past the halfway point in the summer tournament, with some interesting games this week. Mike Wojico won a piece from Mark Kernighan but in the end lost it back, and lost the game Mark is still just 1/2 point behind Ian. John Moldovan who was playing 2 games simultaneously looked lost on both boards, but he managed a draw against David Pawlowski and beat Tedd Mann. Ian Mangion held on to first place with a win vs Lou Sterniolo. Don Carelli and Max Scherer split a pair of games and I beat Bert Shiffman to remain in third. Pat Mazillo and Joe Renna agreed to a draw.

Summer Tournament Week 6

Leader Ian Mangion lost to David Pawlowsky this week to see his lead drop to 0.5 over Mark Kernighan who beat John Moldovan. John also lost to Joe Renna. I spilt 2 quick games with Mike Wojico to stay in third place, our 2 games took less time than any other 1 game. Don Carelli beat Max Scherer, Jim cole beat Bert Shifman and Tedd Mann beat Joe renna in other action.

Kenilworth Summer Tournament Week 5

Ian Mangion continued his winning ways by beating Don Carelli once again/ Ian and Don have played 4 games, their maximum, with Ian taking 3 of 4. Ian now leaeds with 6.5 points. Mark Kernighan beat Max Scherer with mere seconds left on his clock, thanks to the 5 second delay, to stay in second with 5 points. I beat Tedd Mann for my 4th point, and remain in third. Jim Cole lost to Pat Mazillo and later to Bill Sokolosky.

The summer tournament continues to roll along smoothly. The 24th player, Gordon Agress, was added last night breaking last year's record of 23. Gordon won his game vs Sylvia Castill. Ian Mangion pulled out a victory with seconds remaining on his clock vs Don Carelli to maintain a 1.5 point lead with 5.5. Mark Kernighan remains undefeated with a victroy over Joe Renna giving him 4 points and second place. John Moldovan and I split 2 games, giving me 3 for third place and John 2. Max Scherer beat David Pawlowski to give him 2.5 points, and Bert Shiffman upset Geoff McAuliffe to give him 2 points. The prize fund is now $72 for first, $36 for second and $12 for third.

Week three of the Summer Tournament saw two new players join, Sylvia Castill and David Zhu, David beat Sylvia in their game. Our leader Ian Mangion extended his lead to 4.5 points by beating Bert Shiffman twice. Mark Kernighan beat me (or I should say I beat myself) to take sole possesion of second place with 3 points. In other action Max Scherer beat Don Carelli, Rich Lewis took 2 from Luis Raules, Jim Cole and Lou Sturniolo drew, Tedd Mann beat Joe Renna and Bill Sokolowsky beat Geoff McAuliffe.
The prize fund is now $69 for first, $35 for second and $11 for third.

Three more people joined the Summer Tournament this week, Mike Wojico, Pat Mazillo and Jim Cole to bring the total to 21. The prize fund is now $63 for first, $32 for second and $10 for third.
In Thursday's action Mark Kernighan beat Max Scherer, Ian Mangion got a win and a draw against John Moldvan , Don Carrelli beat David Pawlowski, Pat Mazillo beat Lou Sturniolo, Tedd Mann beat Glen Hart, Jim Cole and Bert Shifman split 2 games and Greg Tomkovich beat Joe Renna. The current leader is Ian Mangion with 2.5 points, Kernighan, Carelli, and Tomkovich each have 2.

The 2009 Summer tournament has begun. There are currently 18 participants. the results of last nights games were Don Carrelli beat Ian Mangion, then in a second game Ian beat Don,
Joe Renna beat Brian Balint, then lost to David Pawlowski, NM Mark Kernighan beat Mikhail Krugliak, John Moldovan and Max Sherer drew and I beat Tedd Mann. There is a five way tie for the lead with 1 point. The current prizes are 1st $54, 2nd $27 and 3rd $9. I expect a few maore entries over the next couple of weeks.
